In 2029, ex-police officer Hibino makes a living running errands for the leader of what seems to be an upscale gang. Several disturbing events may be connected to his life, including a civil uprising in Niger, an attack on a radical military figure in Japan, and the theft of bone marrow by someone dubbed “The Vampire.” These threads lead toward a mysterious white-haired boy who is confined to an enormous library, where he spends his time reading book after book. The story asks how Hibino and the boy are linked to the events unfolding around them.
