Kochikame

Ryo-san, a police officer, repeatedly tries to make money through new inventions or by taking advantage of the latest fads. His schemes often bring him great success at first, but when they begin to go wrong, he turns to his wealthy colleague Nakagawa for help. In the end, the fad fades or spirals out of control, and Ryo-san loses everything. The comedy pairs ordinary characters with incongruous details, including Nakagawa’s wealth, Maria’s appeal and the characters’ general lack of police work. These oddities are left unexplained, while the stories focus on gags and Ryo-san’s schemes.
