Lucifer no Migite

Katsumi Yu returns to Japan burdened by the crimes he committed while treating the wounded in an African civil war. Three years earlier, he had gone to Africa as a volunteer doctor, but was captured by guerrillas who needed medical help. He continued treating people for several years until a change of regime brought the group under attack and forced him into a life-or-death choice. Yu then abandoned medicine, marked his right arm with a tattoo of Lucifer, and descended into drinking. After a drunken brawl, Yu wakes in Dr. Minatono’s clinic. It treats anyone, including people without insurance or money, and has advanced equipment despite its suspicious appearance. Minatono funds it by providing care to clients such as mob members who cannot use ordinary hospitals for legal reasons. Yu initially refuses Minatono’s offer of work, but circumstances keep drawing him into the operating room.
