Sharaku searches for the origins of the Three-Eyed Ones, a lost civilization whose mysterious ruins are part of his heritage. Accompanied by Chiyoko Wato, he travels to places including Arizona, Easter Island, and Mexico, where he deciphers ancient writings and uses inventions to investigate mysteries—and sometimes create new problems. Sharaku is often bullied for acting childish, but he can fight back when the x-shaped bandage covering his third eye is removed. The eye conceals a darker side of him: when it is uncovered, Sharaku’s hidden, malicious genius comes to the fore. His conflicts with teachers and other students sometimes grow into major parts of the story.
