Shigurui

In 1629, under the rule of Tokugawa Tadanaga, a tournament in Shizuoka pits samurai against one another with real swords instead of wooden practice blades. The decision draws strong objections from the daimyo’s vassals. The story centers on the tournament’s first match: one-armed swordsman Fujiki Gennosuke faces blind samurai Irako Seigen. It also follows the circumstances that bring the two men to take part in Tokugawa’s contest.
