After his childhood friend and first love chooses his older brother, Tetsuo leaves for Tokyo with a secret. His move begins a period of growth shaped by the people he meets in the city. As children, Kaede Shiraishi promises Tetsuo that he can make her his own when they enter high school, then moves away. Tetsuo keeps thinking of her, and they reunite as high school students—but his brother becomes involved with Kaede instead. Unable to bear hearing them together in the next room every day, Tetsuo heads to Tokyo. Set in Shimokitazawa, the story follows his coming of age through his encounters there.
