Ranko Hanamiya, the daughter of a noble family fallen on hard times, works as a waitress at the Cassiopeia café in the Taisho era. At 24, she has no prospects and wants to remain independent rather than marry. One day, a handsome customer gives Ranko an unexpected gift. When she returns home, she learns that Viscount Chonabashi, an old acquaintance of her family, has come to fulfill a marriage promise made when she was a child. Ranko reluctantly agrees to visit the Chonabashi home to appease her parents, only to discover that her café customer, Yoichiro, is to be her fiancé.
