Fukuda Shinichi is an 18-year-old scholastic failure, athletic disaster, and chronic loser—but he loves cheering others on. The captain of his high school’s cheerleading squad, he heads to Tokyo for summer cram school, only to discover the trip is a sham. After he and a friend are swindled at a bar by two girls, his friend abandons him with an enormous bill. Fukuda is rescued by Ume, his role model and the squad’s former captain, whom people in Tokyo seem to know and respect. With nowhere else to go, Fukuda follows Ume to work and discovers that he is a male gigolo. Fukuda’s summer of cheering others on takes him into Tokyo’s red-light district, where his new circumstances are far from what he expected.
