Dorobou wa Koi no Hajimari

Kit Smith moves to London to honor her gambler father's dying wish, posing as the niece of Rose Singleton, a woman in high society. Kit has no idea what influence her father used to secure her introduction to polite society. Hugo Devinish, once a cabin boy and now a prosperous merchant and ship captain, attends a town party to investigate an heiress being courted by his young nephew. When Hugo asks Kit to dance, she overhears him telling a friend about his mission and assumes he has been sent to investigate her. She bristles at his description of her as a girl with more hair than conversation, and wonders why he believes she is an heiress. Deciding to play the simpering simpleton he seems to expect, Kit accepts the dance.
