Gakuen Alice

Mikan heads to a school in Tokyo to find her best friend, Hotaru, and discovers it is an academy for children with extraordinary powers. The two friends often play together, but Hotaru leaves for the government-reserved school for geniuses, leaving Mikan lonely. When Hotaru does not come home for the holidays as promised, Mikan is hurt and angry. After overhearing a conversation between Hotaru’s mother and a teacher, she suspects Hotaru had reasons for leaving that she did not understand, and runs away to the school. There, Mikan learns that the students have special abilities called “Alices.” Hotaru has one, and after a chance encounter with a teacher, Mikan finds herself enrolled too. Now reunited with her friend, she wonders whether she might have an Alice of her own.
