Green Blood

After the American Civil War, the industrial revolution draws immigrants to New York in pursuit of a better life, but many find poverty and discrimination instead. In Manhattan’s Five Points, a notorious slum, mobsters control the streets and even the police, making their own rules amid widespread crime and violence. Luke Burns is an honest, idealistic teenager who sees the mob as the source of Five Points’ misery and believes joining it cannot bring him the American dream. He does not know that his older brother, Brad, secretly works as an assassin for the Grave Diggers, the district’s largest mob. Known as the Grim Reaper, Brad has a fearsome reputation as a ruthless and skilled killer, and keeps his dangerous role from Luke to protect him.
