Knowing the successful experiment will give him power and set the lab ablaze, Anis plans to escape before it happens. But seeing Emilien suffer through cruel experiments, Anis secretly helps him while avoiding the researchers, and the two grow close. When Emilien asks for a name, Anis gives him one—and promises not to leave him. Anis believes only the story’s original heroine can cure Emilien’s experimental side effects, so they plan to slip away and let him find her.
