Izayakaku

After the war between the Genji and Taira clans, most of the Genji have fallen or been taken hostage. Their young surviving successor, Yoritomo, is spared by the Taira leader and exiled to Hirugakojima, a small island in the Izu region. Yoritomo settles into a quiet, contented life in exile and has no desire for revenge. Then Mongaku, a minister banished to the island for disrespecting the Emperor, arrives and urges him to strike back against the Taira. Yoritomo, however, turns away from Mongaku’s appeal.
