Jiyu and Hunter attend rival elite schools in Manhattan and live in the same apartment building, but their lives could hardly be more different. Jiyu lives in affordable housing and prefers quiet reading, while Hunter occupies a penthouse overlooking Central Park and can never sit still. A gifted tennis player, Hunter begins competing in tournaments and wins every match Jiyu attends. He comes to believe she brings him good luck. When tragedy strikes Jiyu, the Hamilton family takes her in, but she becomes a servant rather than Hunter’s friend. Jiyu relies on Hunter to survive, while he relies on her superstition as his lucky charm.
