William is a noble student whose intelligence, school, and family background attract attention. When his uncle’s business fails and the family loses money, William returns home to help the family butler find belongings they can sell, concerned about the effect the trouble might have on his school’s reputation. Their search leads to an underground room used by William’s ancestors. There, William accidentally activates a magical seal and summons Dantalion, a demon who tells him he can choose the king of the demon world. The candidates for the throne soon turn their attention to William, leaving him to face the question of who will become king.
