Amon Drake arrives in the capital hoping to succeed, but his first day as a teacher at the prestigious Amonis Academy brings troubling news: the school is close to bankruptcy. The academy’s remaining staff offer little reassurance, with a gambling-addicted principal and teachers who are often drunk. Amon wonders whether the academy’s collapse would void his contract and let him escape before wasting his life there. Convinced that escape favors the clever, he decides to bring the school to ruin. His attempt to get away from the academy begins.
