Sugars

Sugars is a collection of six connected short stories about romance and the people whose lives overlap. Kie, an eighteen-year-old who has never been asked out, tries candy said to act like a love potion and finds that even her friend Shimon is suddenly interested. When she falls for him, she wonders whether his feelings are genuine. Her best friend Mami, who usually turns suitors down, is drawn to a younger boy who loves Jack Johnson, though he already likes someone else. On the day before Christmas Eve, Tomomi bakes cakes at school alongside a quiet student council president. Maika’s feelings for her teacher lead her to volunteer after school, where another boy joins her and later reveals his own feelings. Hiro, now popular in high school, still thinks about the girl who gave him chocolate when he was unpopular in middle school. Finally, Ginjirou grows jealous when girls who meet his striking friend Akira—who is actually a girl—fall for her instead.
