Young Rize Babalon inherits a noble title—and a barren barony—after the deaths of his parents. When the citizens rise against him as he takes office, he tries to protect himself by using magic to win their favor. Rize believes that helping and bribing the people will let him live comfortably, perhaps at a seaside retreat. Instead, his approval soars, and the citizens begin to hail him as their savior. Though his magic empowers the people, Rize never intended to start a revolution or bring down the nobility, and his attempt to secure an easy life quickly gets out of hand.
