Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

In a distant future, people live with their domestic animals in underground villages, fearful of earthquakes and cave-ins. In Jeeha, young Simon discovers a small, shining drill while digging to expand the village. Meanwhile, Kamina, convinced there is land above them, persuades a gangster to break through the cavern ceiling and escape. An earthquake brings the ceiling down, and a giant robot bursts into the village. Kamina takes this as proof of an upper world and recklessly confronts the machine. Yoko, a girl from above who has been tracking it with her rifle, arrives but can only distract it. Simon then shows Kamina and Yoko his discovery: a mysterious robot whose head is also its body.
