Cross Vish, an ordinary peasant with no remarkable abilities, somehow joins a hero’s party. Unlike many in his position, he is never cast out: the heroes consider him a loyal friend. But staying with them only deepens Cross’s distress, as he struggles to see how someone he considers worthless can contribute to their celebration. When the Demon King is dying and prepares to cast a spell on the hero, Cross realizes what his role must be. His second life begins with a desperate act of groveling.
