Kuraki Fuzuchi is a quiet young man with powerful psychic abilities and sword skills. College student Takeo Nanachi has similar powers waiting to emerge, and their paths cross at a remote mountain shrine. Nanachi travels there for a festival held once every 49 years, intending to purify his deceased grandfather’s sword. He meets Kuraki and accidentally witnesses Kuraki’s initiation as a Shaman. From then on, their lives are inexplicably intertwined as they encounter ghosts, spirits, demons, and others with supernatural powers. Alongside their present-day encounters, the story follows a parallel account of their previous life.
