Yama ni Sumu Kami

A young woman travels alone to the mountain where a deity and a man-eating tiger are said to live. When the tiger terrorizes her village, its head promises his daughter Hyeon-na to whoever kills the beast. Unhappy at being offered as a prize, Hyeon-na sets out to face the mountain on her own. This collection brings together five short stories: “Song of the Yue Maiden,” “The Deity Atop a Mountain,” “The Abducted Maiden,” “The Folding Fan with Peach Blossoms Motif,” and “Brothel: Women’s Territory.”
